Oh Brother

After waxing lyrical about the amazing Twin Sister last year I thought I'd keep the Equality and Human Rights Commission off my case by checking out Brighton's Alex Wells aka Twin Brother (not to be confused with his non identical American relatives Twin Brother).

Judging by the tracks on his Soundcloud site it seems that this Twin Brother (one of the Glastonbury ETC 8, check out the other 7 here) is suffering an identity crisis, either that or a severe bout of musical schizophrenia. The amazing Lungs sounds like it's adopted some mathematical formula for the perfect indie sound. TS + AM = IPP (The Strokes plus Arctic Monkeys equals indie pop perfection). It's yet another contender for the Devil's top 10 of the year (which is rapidly turning into the top 100!!!).

Unfortunately it doesn't appear to be an entirely repeatable formula judging by the other tracks 'Nothing Stays' sounds like a Ryan Adams b-side (I swear I even heard a few notes from Adams' 'Nuclear') while the folky The Actor and Backseat Routine stray into Americana territory. They're not bad they just don't scale the musical heights of the indie tastic 'Lungs'.

If I was a psychiatrist I'd recommend that Twin Brother sort out his familial differences and focus his efforts on recreating the secret formula for the creation of Lungs and surely glory will be his reward.
