The New Eggie – June Version

Hi guys! How are you lately? Do you miss me? =)

Look like it has been a long time since my last update. I wonder are you still keeping up with my update? No matter what, I am going to start this blogging activity once again, continue whatever I’ve left behind. This was once a home for me and it is going to be home again from now onwards.

I guess 1st June 2011 is a good time to say bye-bye to past and say hello to new start for the next 7 months of the year – just like our electrical tariff which increase with from RM10.70/mmBTU to RM13.70/mmBTU. Well you see, people around us always expect us to improve from time to time and we can clearly see this value in our government. They are improving too. yay!

Back to curryegg’s story, if you notice this blog post title you will soon scroll down to her latest hairstyle of the month. It is a good indication for a new start, right?

So yes, the new June version of eggie is about to be revealed

One of your Five a Day

United FruitUnited Fruit
From: Glasgow, Scotland

If you like your music smooth with all the rough edges filed away then you may as well leave now and go and indulge in the dubious pleasures of SmoothFM or Simply Red’s back catalogue. If however you like your music raucous, discordant and so loud it makes you dizzy then keep reading because United Fruit are on a mission to destroy your brain cells and leave you little more than a quivering wreck.

From the ear bothering noise of opener Kamikaze through to the sludgy emo of Wrecking Ball the pace of the Scottish noiseniks’ debut album Fault Lines rarely falters. Pitching its tent somewhere between the confrontational brutality of McLusky and the apocalyptic experimentalism of Trail of Dead it’s an adrenaline rush that leaves most albums choking on their exhaust fumes.

Go Away, Don’t Leave Me Alone owes it’s life, it’s very existence, to At The Drive In. It’s a close relative of One Armed Scissor, a Scissor sister perhaps. The only respite from the brain pummelling noise comes courtesy of Three, the only track on the album where the pace dips below the furiously frenetic. It’s the point at which noise and melody meet, fall in love and decide to live together until deaf do them part. It is, however, no more than the briefest of brief respites. The buzzing Confuse Her Now and the aural assault of The Alarm add more weight to the United Fruit mission to boost the profit margins of the UK’s hearing aid salesman.

Fault Lines is punk without the anger, it’s emo without the self pity, it’s post rock without the self indulgence. It’ll tear your ears from your head and leave them in a bleeding heap on the floor and there aren’t many albums you can say that about. Make United Fruit one of your five a day.

7.5/10

Why Do We Buy?

I'm obviously a shoe addict. I buy shoes on an almost weekly basis and my shoe "closet" is overflowing with shoes... I know that sounds great but it's really getting ridiculous. I think I may have a problem.

I was shopping this week and trying on a really awesome pair of glittery sky high Louboutins and was about to buy them when my friend, a sales associate at the boutique, casually asked "What are you buying them for?"

Huh?

What did she mean? I was buying them cause I wanted them! Did I need a specific reason? Do people buy shoes for a purpose other than having a fabulous pair of shoes? This may sound totally silly but I think this just hit me- I buy shoes without actually thinking about when/where I'm going to wear them. It never occurred to me that I was doing this but when I actually think about it, I feel like a total ass.

I blame my job. As a shoe designer we're constantly shopping, or as we like to call it- it "researching". We have to be on top of all the current trends and know all the hot shoes, but a side affect of that is, of course, wanting shoes for ourselves.  I've gotten to the point where I find myself buying shoes just to have them. If I used this "where are you going to wear them" logic, I bet I'd have about half the shoes I have.

Some examples?
Well, these DSquared spine heels are a great example. Where can I wear these? I wore them a couple of times so far. Once to the mall just to show them to all my friends (I'm a total mall rat if you didn't know) and another time or two to I forget where. They're high and fragile and not exactly comfortable, but they're works of art!

Another pair I just had to have? These Fendi Cinderella shoes. I wore them once to the Emmys last year and they were painfully uncomfortable so I never wore them again. But gosh they're beautiful...

Ok, one more! These boots that I just HAD to have. But again, I didn't think about where I'd wear them. I mean, they're suede! I'm terrified to wear them in case I ruin them... but boy are they pretty.

I could go on and on and on. I've decided to clean and organize my shoes and really look at what I have. I need to make an effort to buy more consciously!! I know that doesn't sound like much fun but If I don't slow down my shoes are going to take over our house! Look at this room- it's crazy. I'm like a shoe hoarder!

WHAT A MESS! I'll post an after photo as soon as I get it under control ;)

What about you? Do you think before you buy?? Do you always have a plan before you shop or are you guilty of impulse buying too?

Living On The Giro

The Girobabies
From: Glasgow, Scotland

At what point in musical history did anger go out of fashion? When did political protest become old fashioned? When did dancing replace protest? Thankfully not everyone got the email (or should that be twitter message?) and there are still bands out there who channel their frustration via the medium of music bands like Scottish refuseniks The Girobabies who clearly didn't get the memo. They sound like a Caledonian Half Man Half Biscuit infused with the anger of the dispossessed. If Peel were alive they'd be all over his programme like a rash.

Fuck dancing let's protest.
